Stupid Question?

Post by smoundzou »

I hope this question dosen't sound too stupid but I'll ask anyway.

I currently weight 188lbs, 5'10 about 15-18% body fat. I'm doing a pretty intenese 5 day split ave workout about 45-60 minutes using heavy weight, low reps usally to failure.

question is, eating is very good, good balance of protein, fat and carbs but I'm only taking in about 2200-2500 calories per day and about 125-150 of protein. I drink two protein shakes per day, One in the morning and one after workout. According to every calculator I've looked at, I need to be taking in about 3500 cals and 235 protein per day to have good solid gains... I managed to do this for a few weeks but I'm really having problems eating that much food and I really don't want to use a gainer shake with 1200-2500 calories..

seeing as I'm doing low reps to failure what is the probable outcome doing this type of routine only taking in that amount of calories?

Will I slowly gain? or will I slowly lose and get defined? or am I totally confussing body and need to change directions? I hope this is enough info.. I've posted routine for critique and made the adjustments needed.. Mostly added more compound exercises...

thanks in advance and I do apologize for the stupid question in advance.. :D

Dude you've got to realise, you can only get replies when

A: The viewer is able to reply

B: Someone who is capable is actually around.

You question isn't stupid, but sometimes these things happen okay :).

Yes, 3,500 calories a day will yield solid gains, but really you could cut back to around 3,000 a day, and aim for approximately 210 grams of Protein, double the Carbs, so your intake is around 2,500 calories, then 500 calories of Fats daily.

This means you should be able to do something more pheasible, with a 6 meal plan, to get more Calories.

FYI- I do realize point #A and Point #B
I didn't realize comment would be taken so literal.

In a previous post I paid you and another person a very nice complement regarding response and good advice. reply to own comment was meant to be humorous.. Not to be taken seriouly.

With that said, thank you for the reply and advice

That's probably fault, I wasn't sure if you were being serious or humorous.

I understand.. I should have put a :D after the comment.

I appreciate the diet info but if I do maintain the current calories intake I postet above in your opinion, what do you think the outcome is going to be??? lose and get cut, or slowwwllly gain mass? or neither.. just confussing body?

FYI- over the past 4 or five weeks, i've noticed I have lost a little body fat but haven't lost any noticable muscle mass... maybe, just a little more cut. I didn't think I would get cut due to the low reps heavy weight.. long rest between sets?? I kinda feel like I'm screwing up and almost eating a cut diet and doing a mass routine..

Another concern is metabolism.. I'm 44 years old, and almost affraid to eat 3500 cals per day, " I feel like I'm working hard but I'm scared that amount of calories is going to ad more fat than I care to try and rid myself of down the road.. " I hope that make sense..

thanks

Probably build some mass, with minimal Fat gains, as your intake is not likely to cause, too much Fat conversion from excess calories. At that level most of your calories should be below excess each meal, and processed normally.

if at 18% you should focus on decreasing to 10 - 12% than build up or you'll just have to lose more fat when trying to cut
