Your 3 mile time from 4 weeks ago:EdgarHF wrote:I really don't now why, but I have been getting down on myself after runs lately. I have set a goal of besting 34 min on next race come September 25th and I am getting mad at myself for not being able to keep a sub 10:56 pace over a mile. I should not be able to attain that just a week after last race and I need to be patient.

Edgar, you are improving just like you should be...don't be so hard on yourself! You have shaved 5 1/2 minutes off your 3 mile time in just 4 weeks! Look at your mile time improvements! Many seasoned runners who don't have any extra weight to lose are not able to bring down their times that fast!
Ah, yes...overcoming the mind. When you are stressing your body, it is telling your brain to STOP, it doesn't like it, and you start letting negative thoughts in...trust me, I know all about those mental wars when running, and they can be brutal (it's one of weak spots too) - but learn to trust your body and it's abilities, just like you did in the last stretch of your 5k race when you really pushed yourself - your body came through, just like it will in your next 5K race. Training runs are to be just that...training, and learning - slowly building up your strength, speed and endurance - which is exactly what you are doing.EdgarHF wrote:I know I can do it physically but I give up mentally
