I have set a goal of besting 34 min on next race come September 25th and I am getting mad at myself for not being able to keep a sub 10:56 pace over a mile. I should not be able to attain that just a week after last race and I need to be patient.
Your 3 mile time from 4 weeks ago:
Time: 00:41:47
Distance: 3.11 mi
1 00:12:52 1.00 12:52
2 00:13:33 1.00 13:33
3 00:14:02 1.00 14:01

todays 3 mile time:
Time: 00:36:17
Distance: 3.00 mi
1 00:11:17 1.00 11:16
2 00:11:21 1.00 11:21
3 00:13:38 1.00 13:38

Edgar, you are improving just like you should be...don't be so hard on yourself! You have shaved 5 1/2 minutes off your 3 mile time in just 4 weeks! Look at your mile time improvements! Many seasoned runners who don't have any extra weight to lose are not able to bring down their times that fast!

Ah, yes...overcoming the mind. When you are stressing your body, it is telling your brain to STOP, it doesn't like it, and you start letting negative thoughts in...trust me, I know all about those mental wars when running, and they can be brutal (it's one of weak spots too) - but learn to trust your body and it's abilities, just like you did in the last stretch of your 5k race when you really pushed yourself - your body came through, just like it will in your next 5K race. Training runs are to be just that...training, and learning - slowly building up your strength, speed and endurance - which is exactly what you are doing. :D

Those mental wars are to blame for this running addiction I have aquired

Rest day today. I have to get up at 5 tomorrow so I can get and leave work early to run with a couple of hardcores from the running class. We are running on our own until the next class starts Sept 16th. I have to get some sleep. gNight:-)

Weigh in today, I am back on the losing track :D . I am down 4 lbs, for a weight of 225.

I pushed run out to 6 miles today. I ran at a very slow rate by design. I will run 3 miles Tuesday and try to push speed again. On Thursday, I ran with a couple of women I met in running group. We ran 3 miles through Lincoln Park. It was a very nice evening with pleasant weather. After run today I had a lunch date. It was the first date I have been on in awhile.

I went shopping for new clothes today. I am down to a 38 waist now so this time in the store they had everything in size. I wanted to go on a spending spree but restrained myself. In two or three months I will be down a size again and this clothes will be tossed aside. The only negative today was seeing myself in the mirror in the changing room and thinking, "Oh ! Those stretch marks are awful".

If I bought a chair that could only 200lbs and it costs not 2500 to buy but 2500 to repair I should also be charged a dumbass fee.

Wow Edgar - you are doing amazing! Losing over 70 lbs!! As far as clothes, it's too bad there isn't a *place* <--for lack of a better word, where we all can't deposit clothes we no longer wear, that can be given to those who are working their way down the scale.....I had tons of size 18, 16, and 14 pants/ slacks from Chico's and Talbot's, and suits that I would've been happy to give to someone who needed them due to weight loss......when kids were young and growing, they went through jeans and Z's....I had them in every size - I brought them to the office and put them anonymously in the lunch room by size...they were gone in less than 5 minutes....I hate going to Goodwill - the workers take all the good stuff, and once I brought a bunch of stuff straight from being dry cleaned and they threw them on top of a very large pile of dirty clothes....ack! Sorry Edgar - got caught up in a pet peeve of mine ;) But seriously...too bad there wasn't some place we could give and go to if needed...

I went through the mental gymnastics of trying to run second mile fast today. Of course fast for me is a relative thing since everyone is still passing me on the path like I am standing still. I was still 10 seconds over goal pace for that second mile. I gave up for about 30 seconds in the middle of that second mile and went into an easy pace. I then cursed myself for doing that and sped up again. If I did not give up for that bit of time I think I would have made goal pace.

Thursday, I will do an easy three with new running partners. I think next Sunday I will taper long run to 4 miles and then push it out to 7 miles the following Sunday. So, next Tuesday legs may be a bit stronger from not stressing them as much on the previous run.

I got to keep telling myself I am 56 years old, still need to lose weight, and have been inactive for years. I will get there eventually.

It's funny how much is in your will. As long as you're not sick to your stomach you can go quite a lot longer/faster than your body is telling you, as long as you can push past the pain. Keep it up, you're doing great!

running partners could not make it tonight so I ran by myself. I was in a jazz mood so I queued up John Coltrane's Love Supreme on the iPod. Now, that is good running music. I did a 3 mile easy run and it is funny how something like that can really show me how much progress I have made. The run felt incredibly short. Afterward I felt like I really did not exercise. It was just too pleasant and easy.

Sunday I plan to taper long run down to 4 miles and follow it Tuesday with a test 5K. The following Sunday I will stretch long run to 7 miles.
