I think I found your half pound...  lol!
I think that is remarkable (jealous) that you were able (jealous) to lose weight (jealous) and still eat a plate of (JEALOUS!) fudge!!!
I would gain a pound just walking past it! LOL!

Hope everyone had a fabulous New Year's! We had an amazing trip to Mt. Bachelor in Bend, OR over the holiday and I had one horrible-falling-on--rear-all-day-day and one amazing snowborading day where I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of things! Yay for me!! Also, I pigged out without remorse all weekend long on delicious delectables...I even had a beer in the hottub (and I don't even drink beer!!, but it was good after a long day on the slopes!)

Yesterday marked the first day of competition diet. In the three weeks prior I was eating anything and everything heart desired. When it came to "last meal", I had two HUGE bowls of Captain Crunch (with Crunch Berries!). That night I dreamt of food...but not because I was/am craving it...I believe it is because I am now focused on task at hand.

So far, the compeition diet isn't complete torture. I met with trainer yesterday to go over her recommended meal plan and I can't say I am entirely impressed. I was especially dissapointed when she mentioned that she thought we should take fruit out for diet as her meal plan listed 1/2 cup fruit for 3rd and 4th meals. Also no carbs 8 hours prior to bedtime? Ugh! I'm going to do some revising to her meal plan to see if we can come up with something more balanced as I don't think I am taking in nearly enough calories. Especially at this stage of the competition.

Yesterday was also chest day. I had a great workout and feel a tiny bit sore today. I am getting stronger each week, which is great. Also, it was weigh-in day. Somehow, miraculously, I lost another pound since the Monday prior. Don't ask me how this is possible. I honestly expected to see at least a three pound increase when I stepped on the scale. In addition to weight workout, I also did 30 minutes of steady cardio on the elyptical. It was kinda tiring, but I managed to get it done.

In the first day the realization of the time and effort it takes to prepare meals and get workouts in, regardless of what life is throwing at you, is a HUGE amount of effort and dedication. I know I can handle it, and I am up for the challenges set before me.

Hope all's well with everyone!

Okay...I have to RAVE about dinner tonight. It's so delicious!

7 egg whites with one whole egg
0.25 cup green bell pepper
0.25 cup mushroom
2 tbls fresh cilantro
2 tbls salsa
1 oz skim mozerella
...all scrambled up into a delicious combination. The best part: only 294 calories, 6 grams carbs, 10 grams fat, and a whopping 42 grams of protein! Yum, yum!

I can do this! :P

What kind of Eggs.

Omega 3 Eggs, with Alpha Linolenic Acid are the result of feeding Chickens some Flax. Normal ones contain a Cholesterol content of which roughly 60% is LDL and 40% HDL.

Difference between both, Omega ones have 4.5g Fat, normal 5g, but Omega Eggs have 1g Carb, normal ones don't. Difference is nomal small ones have 0.5 calories higher.

...just regular eggs. And they didn't agree with me...

Today was lat, back, forearm day. Excellent workout. Also, out of curiousity I decided to step on the scale while I was at the gym with the trainer. I'm down 2.5 lbs since Monday, a clear indication that I need to increase caloric intake. The trainer was super excited, and I was happy to see progress though I don't want to lose muscle. It's a nice sign that I'm on the right track with diet though! I'll be playing with diet over the next week or two, tweaking it so I can eat as much as possible without gaining weight with a steady and SLOW weight loss. I honestly don't feel like I have a lot of weight to lose, but need to work on leaning through cardio and diet. It's trying to find the balance that I'm after.

The bonus of this information is that the trainer has agreed that I am on the right track with what I have been experimenting with, which means that I can get away with having fruit for second and third meals and may even be able to slip in a cheat meal here and there (though I won't decide this until after 1 week weigh in - as in one full week since I started clean diet, which would be next Monday). I think I am only going to cheat when I feel like I will go absolutely bonkers if I don't as I want to make any "steps back" on progress totally worth it. So far though, I am completely satisfied with a 100% clean diet. It's amazing how much food you can eat when you are 100% clean. It seems like all I ever do is eat!

I will have body fat measured either Sunday (if I can fit it into CRAZY schedule with the kids' plans as well as own schedule), or more realistically when I go in for PT session on Monday morning. I am both extremely excited and extremely nervous to find out where I stand, and I am hoping to be right around 19% body fat...but we'll see! I probably want to aim for 13-14% by May show. Depending on where I stand, I may even start looking into an earlier show if I think I could be ready, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I am really excited for this journey. Today's weigh in was really encouraging, as I believe I can do amazing things with body if I put mind to it. I am blessed to have great genetics ( 48 year old mother has God given abs of steel and biceps to kill for, and dad was a NW arm wrestling champion back in the day), the support of a great trainer, supportive friends and family (including all shapefit buddies), and hands down the BEST mentor in the world, dear friend, Cassie Gose. I should mention, part of the motivation for me doing this competition is the fact that I am going to be turning 30 in May. I thought, what better way to bring in 30s than to be in the BEST shape of life!

You have such a good attitude! I really enjoy reading about your progress, it's inspiring and what's even better is that you are making an effort to be in the best shape you have ever been when you turn 30. It's refreshing to hear that, I hear so many people dread turning 30 and complain about how they don't like their figures and how they can't do anything about it when I think that is rubbish! Keep up the good work!!

Cheers

Okay, it just dawned on me that I'm old enough to be your mother!! LOL! Sorry, let me absorb that for a moment....okay, I'm alright...wow, what a reality check! :?
Yes, Lareina you CAN do amazing things and you WILL. I am so glad to see you take advantage of your youth, to make these years be the beginning of what I am sure will be years of health & fitness and goals achieved. I know, I kid about being old enough to be your mother, but really, age does not control or define who we are, unless we let it. What is important is that you live each day to your fullest potential. I am so excited for you as you begin this journey - not just for the May show, but for the choice to do something positive for yourself, your body, and your life - it will reflect on others, and set a great example of healthy living. Many people live their whole lives, just being a bystander on the sidelines of life...waiting for change to come their way, instead of making change happen, so when I see someone like you take charge and go after your goals and dreams I feel like yelling from the rooftops "YES! GO FOR IT!! DON'T LET ANYONE OR ANYTHING STOP YOU!!"
If at any time during your training and journey, you doubt yourself, or are beginning to feel the strain of the diet and workouts - just remember, we are all here for you - all of us having different reasons, different paths that brought us here, but all of us joining together with a shared vision, and are standing behind you, supporting you 100% while you go after your own. :D :D

You're doing brilliantly and you just need to keep doing whatever is right for you. That's all you can do. Ultimately, this process is 99% you and 1% someone else in opinion, but if you push yourself and give as much as you know you need to, to the process you'll be fine.

Good luck.
