Indoor Rowing Champs, and Benefits HIIT

Post by beachdog »

The World indoor rowing machine season has recently commenced and runs from 1st May 2009 thru 30th April 2010. Each year World Rankings are wiped clean and individual rowers must re-row in an event to be ranked for the new season. Concept2 USA manage this.

At the inaugural Sunshine Coast Championships, Queensland, Australia on 21 June, I entered the 500m Fly & Die sprint event and set a new Aust record time in age group and moved up to # 1 in the World rankings, also the same in the 1000m event. Received two gold medals and "Best ' trophy at the end of the day. (Take note of that girls, see, I've still got "it" at 76 yrs young)

Indoor rowing machines are a fantastic way of increasing your aerobic capacity and raising your lactate threshold. Most gyms have a few, and this allows you to have the most intensive workout (HIIT) of any piece of equipment available, although the pump iron gorillas would disagree.
A perfect balance of workouts would include pumping iron, aerobic classes, rowing machines, boot camp sessions and kick boxing, (If only you had the time !!

Thanks for the kind comments guys.
I have added a "Mad dog" photo taken during the last comp to profile page. Worth a look if you wish to see what a great aerobic workout rowing can be. :o
