They are not necessarily bad for you. Just not as nutritious as fresh.
Yeah, the sodium can be high. It's not a bad idea to watch what your total sodium intake is if high blood pressure runs in your family.

Like Sarah said, canned vegetables are not bad for you, but if you are monitoring your sodium intake, no added salt is a good option.

A lot of nutrients can be lost in canned food products. Nutrients can get saturated in the water, therefore when they water is thrown out, so do the nutrients. Yes, the sodium amount is generally higher as well. Personally, I prefer both the taste and the better quality of frozen or fresh veggies. Good luck.

Actually canned (and frozen) vegetables maintain more nutrients in the long run than fresh do. Nutrients are lost in fresh produce due to heat and sunlight during transportation , on grocery store shelves, and in the fridge.
Canned and frozen are manufactured in such a way that these nutrients are preserved. By no means am I saying that fresh produce is not beneficial, but don't discount the benefits of other forms. Some is better than none. For those who have a history of hypertension or cardiac conditions, there is an alternative to fresh if it is not accessible.
