Hi all,
I was just wondering, if someone could offer a bit of advice on program.
I have been working out for about 3 months now, started off at 5'10" and 145lbs. I didnt take initial measurements, but I did measure myself in 2nd month of working out.
Right now, I am up to about 164lbs, and I have put on about an inch everywhere I have been working out. goal is to bulk up a bit, but I dont want to get huge, Im thinking about 170-175, then go for tone.
Is about 1 inch a month considered good gains? I guess I should mention, I didnt add any size on waist, actually lost a bit.
I have been working out every other day, recently a personal trainer friend of mine, told me, if I wanted to bulk up, to try working out 5 days on, and then 2 days off.
It just didnt sound right to me, as I know the muscles need time to recover, but he is the personal trainer.
I think I am what is considered a "hard gainer." I have alot of trouble eating every 2-3 hours, I just cant eat that often, I feel like I am force feeding myself. Any one have some advice on this?
Could someone shed some light on these subjects for me?

first of all it'd be helpful if you said how old you are that will shed more light on your metabolism.
and for the 5 day split your friend mentioned he meant to train each muscle group once a week.
and about eatting 5-6 meals a day each meal should contain between 800-900 calories no more otherwise youll vomit while lifting, which is extremely counter productive.

- "go for tone"???...if you eat clean now you won't need to do any "toneing" phase which you can't do anyway...tone is simply muscle mass with little
- i don;t like when people put actual wt numbers out there to reach...what if get to 168 and look perfect? would you still aim for 175 even though you might look worse??
- you'll gain pretty easily in the first 3mths of training no matter what you do...i gained 15pds in about 3mths when I first started (3 x full body/week) with a shit load of running and no food...i was tiny though (55kgs at age 18)
- as long as your waist stays the same at least you're on the right track
- 5 days straight is retarted and you can tell them I said that...he's giving other pt's like me a bad name and there's enough morons out there already...ask him if he trains like that
- there's no "hardgainers" just those who don't eat...it's simple, if you wanna get bigger, you've gotta eat more, there's no way around it...eat 7 small meals every 3 hours will be easier...eat til your content then eat again when your hungry

Well Im new to the whole training thing, so when I said "go for tone" I guess I figured when i would bulk up, and then need to tone up somewhat. I wasnt aware, that it would be possible to put on size, while keeping it toned.swanso5 wrote:- "go for tone"???...if you eat clean now you won't need to do any "toneing" phase which you can't do anyway...tone is simply muscle mass with little

Also as for weight, I just use it as a comparison, friend who is the same height as me, is 175, and he is the size I want to be =)
As to eating, I do eat quite a bit, but once I hit 160, it seems the weight is coming much slower. When you say "small meals" what would that entail?
Small is a bit of a subjective word =)
Thank you for the relpies!

Same here. It's really hard for me to eat every 3 hours. Especially since i only have 7 minutes to get to classes in school so I really don't have enough time to eat every 3 hours.I think I am what is considered a "hard gainer."
