I visit the gym almost everyday besides sundays and wednesdays. You'd only have the Carb energy you could use if you'd eating within about 3 hours of a workout. The energy you would be using if you ate nothing, would be Glycogen, mainly from muscles, and possibly some Fat as well. Carbohydrates, depends on type. Simple fast acting ones, like Fructose as example, digest potentially within 1 hour. Slower digesting ones, like Fibre, take around 3 hours. .
