Spine injury and weights

Hi all!
I have injured spine broke waist bone resulting in an hernia in L4 and L5. Until now I've been doing bodybuilding for 10 years. Can I continue to exercise in the current condition?

No, I would advise against it.

The only things you might be advised to do would be something like recumbent exercies bike stuff.

You'd be lucky to be able to do Leg Extensions and Hamstring Curls.

Whatever the Physio has given you to do, assuming you've had physio, I'd stick to that for now and possibly consider icing for 3-4 times a day for 15 minutes, perhaps wearing one of those cold or heat patches too.

Hi and thank you for the reply!
It's been a year and three months since accident and I have been doing some exercises mostly with resistance but very much like bodybuilding exercises. I feel ok. Don't feel any discomfort or pain in the lower back. A college tells me that I can do it but with low weights and I think I can, but still I think that any weight that is to much and I don't see it it is going to wreck hernias. I guess I better keep doing the exercises that I've doing, doing swimming and keep it slow.

Until you're a definite for having recovered and have that confirmed by a medic, best to stick to what you're doing.

Hello!
The trouble is that the doctors don't tell me anything. Each time I go to the doctor, they say that the recovery time is bigger than the last time they told me so, I guess I have a lifetime to recover!

It may be something you need specialist attention. The scope of your problem may be above the training and understanding of a generalised medic.

One thing you might be able to do, is try something like Joint Formula. A product made by CNP the Dorian Yates company. It helps wiht the Collagen and condition of the spinal area, which might be of use.

I haven't used it, but I found out about it some years back and I believe they may still make it.

I don't think it's necessarily the kind of snake oil type stuff, like some protein powders or energy drinks, that are full of herbs, that supplement companies pump out for about a 50% higher price, than the bog standard equivalent.

Sounds like you might be best advised to meet with a doctor and a personal trainer. Taking advise from a message board might not be the most credible source in this case.

The sort of people who as stated didn't tell him anything.

Mind you though that was 9 months ago, so anything could have happened by now.
