I am interested in getting a chin up/pull up bar. Unfortunately house was built in 1900 so I am not sure how strong doorways are. I only have one door on the inside of house (oh, make that two, bathroom!) and the molding is the original from when it was built. I am a little nervous to purchase the kind that sits on top of the molding. I have also seen the pressure bars that fit between the walls of a doorway. How reliable are those? Do they really hold your weight or are they dangerous? And how much pressure do the other ones put on molding?
Not sure which route to go - the pressure bar would probably damage the paint, but that's a cheap , but the molding ones could do damage to molding, which is too old to find a replacement!

Re: Chin up/Pull up bars
I would go with a dual strap system from the monkey bar gym.com.
I have one and it's great at being able to wrap around all sorts of odd objects like beems, tree limbs and you can put it in a door jam with minimal contact with the door. It's really great for chin ups but you can also do many other full body workouts too. It's the best $70 I ever spent!
