Lose Weight, build lean muscles and be healthier and happier

Post by terotauko »

Hello All,

I have recently started working out but am not sure if I am doing it right. I am 26, female, 5-4", around 140 pounds with a severe body-image issue.
I have noticed that I do not lose noticeable weight when i work out, however, as soon as I stop, i gain a lot more back. Over the holidays I gained around 8 pounds in about 2 weeks.

I usually run or bike 30-40 mins a day, 3-4 days a week. I am trying to lose ugly fat, huge thighs and flabby arms. I wear a size 4, however thighs are dispropotionately fat. I don't like looking at the mirror and I am really trying to come to terms with looks. Somehow I fail miserably. I used to be 20 pounds lighter and I felt I was okay looking. Now I have realized I will never go back to looking like that but just don't know how to admit and come to terms with it.

eating habits are pretty healthy, but since I don't eat meat and live alone, sometimes I don't end up getting enough protiens. I am thinking about adding Whey protien drinks but I am afraid that I might not be able to burn it all due to lack of exercise. I want to be motivated and work out regularly but sometimes I fail. And it has a domino effect.. I end up skipping gym for days in a row.

I want to lose overall weight and tone flabby arms, abs, thighs and butt. What kind of regiment should i stick to? I do free weight (7-8 pounds) every alternate days for biceps and triceps. (10-15 mins). Also, i get very nervous in the weight room as it is always full of big bulky men who religiously workout. So I don''t use the machines.. mostly because I don't know how to use it and too shy to ask anyone.

I really think once I start losing weight I will be a relatively happier person overall. Help suggest me fun/effective workout routines please. I thank you all in advance.

we have a few barriers to break down here...

1 - isn't size 4 tiny?

2 - no one loses noticable wt, it's a slow drawn out process most of the time so don't get caught up in numbers everyday of the week

3 - you can't be estiung thsat good if you're gaining 8pds in 2 weeks but one of those weeks yout "girlie" week?

4 - you can get back there with some discipline and a plan

5 - you need more resistance work, cardio is best used to simply burn more cal's, not actual fat

6 - you should set up an appointment with a trainer or instructir at youe gym to sjow you some ropes...don't let them sell you 400 pt essions (unless that's what you want) but rather just a run through of using some stuff in the gym

7 - you need to be condifcdent in yourself now, not when you lose wt which probanly won't happen in your current mindset
