Newbie seeking advice

Basically I'm starting from the very beginning. I've done some occasional working out before, but now I'm ready to get serious about it, and I'm tired of reading all of the articles online like "Get your beach body in 3 weeks!!!!!" I want to get a routine down, but I want to do it right, now jump into something without being ready. That said, I've heard that there's some benefit in "prepping" your body before actual weight lifting, as in doing body weight exercises for 3-4 weeks. Would this be beneficial for a newbie like me? If it would, any recommendations on what sort of program would be best to follow?

A thank you in advance to anyone that takes their time with responding. I'm more than willing to take ANY advice that is offered!

In order to get a "beach body" you have to make sure your diet is clean!!!
(complex carbs, good fats, lean protein, lots of veggies and fruits)
For starting out... You can do... Body weight workout here is a link written by By Alwyn Cosgrove..

Or you can start with full body workout. 1-2 exercise per muscle group.

Thanks to both of you for responding so quickly! Read over the article that you both suggested, seems like EXACTLY how I want to start out. I have just a couple of questions about it...

1) I was able find out what AMRAP meant, but I'm a little confused about the numbers in there such as "@ 333." I want to say it's related to the pace of the exercises, but I just wanted to make sure before I got going with them.

2) I'm not sure what to make of the A1, A2, B1, etc. I'm pretty sure it's indicating which exercises to do for each workout, but I can't say for sure.

333 etc is tempo so 3secs up, 3sec up, 3secs down and so on

a1/a2 are pairings so if a1 is squat and a2 is push up then you do squats, rest as prescribed, push up rest, squat etc for all listed stes and reps

Thanks again swanso5, your help is much appreciated! I'll give this routine a try 3 times a week for 4 weeks and then think about going to the gym for some weights. If there's anything I'm missing, please let me know!

Don't mean to hijack your thread here, but besides whole grain bread and other grain products, what's a good food source for complex carbs?

carbs when bulking:

bread, pasta, rice, potato, cereal at breakfast, pre, during and post training

fruit, veg, salad at all other meals

Some of the best Carb sources for muscle building are things like Protein Enriched Pasta, Soy products, like Soybeans, Tofu, Tempeh, Nattokinase and Edamame, Beans, Lentils, Mushrooms, Rice, Flax, Low Fat Cheese and Peanuts.

Bascially as they are Carb and Protein providers. The lowest GI ones out of those are Soybeans, (16), and Mushrooms, (10).

Hey guys, complex carbs are good whether cutting or bulking! Also, beware, any program that assigns a tempo to the lift is usually suspect. Muslces are designed for explosion and when we train them in a 'functional' capacity, only then are the movements down slower. Hope this helps-Kyle
