TKD Combined with working out...?

Post by racer501 »

So a little background since its ben so long if your interested if not skip to the next paragraph haha... So it's ben almost a year since getting on. While I was in school I was regularly checking and seein new topics and reading new things that came out. I had progressed alot while in school and was quite happy with myself. When I had started school I weight approx 165-170 lbs. Through the nine months of being there I gradually worked up to 187 the day before I left. I had drastically changed physical appearnance in those 9 months great definition and tone compaired to what I had previous I was borderlining a solid 6 pack witch I was plenty happy with. Well since graduating and getting out I hit a huge hard time. Unable to find a job in the field I had gone to school for made me feel like I payed $35,000 for nothing. I slipped into a really bad depression. Slept day away sat around and did nothing when I was awake and not working the dead end gas station job. Well I've eventually saved up money and gotten a 300 lb bar set and bench to work out at home. Along with that and a friend perswading me into joing TKD/MMA class I've managed to push the depression back a little I know it's still sittin there I can feel still "feel" it there if that makes sense. But with that I'm able to go about things almost normally at least and get out there and do more things.

Since starting the class and working out in combination I've ben thinkn I might be over doing it seeing as some areas took near a week to finally stop being sore. I was curious what would be a good combination between working out with weights and doing TKD and MMA. Class's consist of tuesdays and thursdays. Tuesday TKD starting at 7 and working on forms, kickin, punchin when that gets over with on tuesdays we do a Gracie Jui Jitsue class at 8. Then thursdays class starts at 7:15 consisting of more TKD when that ends we start MMA which consists of boxing conditioning sparing very intense high cardio workouts. So I was curious what would be good days to do weights in combination with TKD/MMA along with what kind of intensity and actual forms to do.

Don’t forget to give your body a deep stretch. It will help you be less sore and work on your flexibility with your kicks. Yeah, you are doing a lot but Tu-Thr TKD/MMA, other days weights & rest.

Swanso thats what I was thinking and did but i must of just over done it monday to get so sore. But i have noticed with working out for quite a few other people it slows them down are there some specific exercises that would help keep speed up yet get stronger? What kind of sets would you say to do higher weights lower reps or lower weights with higher reps? ie. 3 sets with say 12-15 reps or 5 sets with 4-6 reps

Nokie with the deep body stretching I can get alot of areas stretch out and feel the stretch good. But its the areas I can't get stretched by myself that I feel the soreness so long. Quads, biceps, upper quad/hip area, chest to a slight extent... The abs I'm weird and dont mind them being sore and they seem to heal up real fast no matter how bad they are. I do try to keep workin on flexibility with kicks but it seems to be a different sore from those stretches I'm not sure how to explain it

8 - 15 reps will give you soreness so stay in the strength range, you don't need to get big anyway really, just get stronger and you'll be fine...search hammer down strength by chad waterbury which is 2/week geared for mma's...might need some tweaking though
