6 meals a day - question

Post by fitoverforty »

Are the 6 meals a day supposed to be approx. the same size meals, or is it 3 main meals with 3 smaller snacks in between those? I am finding that when I am eating the 3 larger meals, I end up skipping some of the snack meals because I am not hungry. It still feels like too much food to eat and lose weight, it is hard to change a mindset you have had for 30+ years, but I'm trying!
Any advice or help would be appreciated. :D

I like to do breakfast with slightly more calories and the last meal of the day with slightly less calories. It can be hard to eat ALOT of food and i understand the mental road block that comes with eating that much food. We are taught that the more you eat the more you will weigh. However keep in mind that its not necessarily how much you eat but what you eat that makes you gain/lose weight. If you are eating 6 meals a day of twinkies, hohos, whoppers, bigmacs, frenchfries, and onion rings then yes, you will gain weight (or at the very least not lose any). However if youre eating six meals a day of healthy clean foods that your body can USE for energy then you will most likely lose weight (assuming you have the right balance of macros and calories. How many calories are you currently taking in? Are you losing weight on those calories? Go by how your body is responding not how you THINK it will respond.

Great advice Cassie. I used to use the diet tracker here when I first joined. I was religious about counting every carb, fat, protein, etc. and had a much better idea about how many calories I was eating, plus the macro balance. Then i got all big headed and thought I had it all figured out...HA! But the proof is in the pudding...(sorry for the dessert reference - I'm carb starved right now!) and since I have stopped using the diet tracker..guess what...I stopped losing weight at the rate I was then. It really does pay to keep up with that. As of right now I have no idea how many daily calories I am consuming (I'm sure it is NOT enough) and what the breakdown is. So...back to the diet tracker for me :D

So it sounds like either:

A) You are eating more calories than you need and you aren't losing weight
B) You aren't eating enough calories and your metabolism is slowing down
C) You're body has grown accustomed to what you're doing and its time to tweak things (sometimes you can keep calories as they are and shake up the workout to break the plateau).

I would definitely go back to tracking your meals to see how many calories you're consuming and go from there. I'll go check out your journal and see if i can offer further advice from that.

post training meal usually consist of a whey protien shake and maybe some sugary cereal with skim milk this is about 6:30 am far from biggest meal. Breakfeast is bigger usually 2hard boiled eggs or egg whites depending on appetite with some carrots or baby spinanch.

Should I be eating more for post work out meal? maybe add some fiber there how about beans or other legumes post workout.
