Hello. I was wondering if you can answer a couple questions. first I have changed diet to what has been suggested like protein and veggies. I am having a hard time trying to keep calories to 1600..average 1400 to 1500, is body still in
starvation mode because I'm under amount of daily calories?
also why does the body need so much protein? ( having hard time eating turkey and chicken all the time)
I also try to make up calories when i get home from work and I sometimes eat late because i get home late...any suggestions would be great... would like to know if i should just not eat after 8 even if im short for calories? Thanks so much.

Yes youre body is most likely still in "starvation" mode if youre only eating 1400-1500 calories. To be honest I really don't think 1600 is enough calories for you. If i were you I would be shooting for closer to 1800-2000.
Protein: What are your goals? I'm assuming its either to lose fat, build muscle, or (as I often hear people say) "tone up"? If you're wanting to lose fat one of the best ways to go about it is to lift weights and put some muscle on your body. When you have more muscle on your body you naturally burn more calories throughout the day (for each pound of muscle you carry you burn about 50 more calories per day)... the more calories you are burning the more you can EAT and the more weight you will lose. With this said... if you want to build muscle you must give your body enough protein to do to. Protein containes the building blocks of muscle. If you don't eat enough protein your body will have a hard time bulding the muscle.. making it more difficult to burn the fat.
Don't try to "make up" calories when you get home from work. Eat balanced meals throughout the day starting as soon as you wake up. If you're shooting for 2000 calories per day then your day would look like this:
This way you KNOW you're going to get enough calories. Plus, its alot easier to make up 330 calories in healthy foods than it is to make up 1000 calories in healthy foods.
As far as eating late at night... Eating late at night isn't going to hurt you if you stick to the right foods. If you chow down on twinkies, whoppers, and french fries at 10pm then yes, you are most likely going to gain weight or have a hard time losing it. However if you have a bowl of ff cottage cheese and some veggies and a few nuts at that time its not going to mess up your diet in any way.

PS: I'm glad this site has helped you. I LOVE this site!
Thank you so much! The way you broke the calories down will make it more manageable. I dont eat junk late at night Im really concentrating on a clean diet. i will be starting weight lifting as soon as i can dig out bow flex in the garage. You have been so helpful.
