Ouch!!

Post by laurenwilcox »

I can never get deadlifts right!!! I always bang the bar on knees, it is getting seriously annoying(and painful!). Any advice on what I might be doing wrong, or a substitute workout??
Thanks so much :D

Deadlifts should result in the Bottom and Back looking a bit like this >, when you're at the bottom of the lift.

You should never extend the Knees to the point, where they block the view of your Feet.

It sounds simply like you're not pushing the bottom out enough, whilst maintaining a straight back.

I would practice this infront of a mirror, to check you are modifying technique correctly, before doing it with weight.

Then use the lightest bar possible and attempt a couple of reps, so any impact you're still getting is reduced. This test will confirm the presence of any improper technique. No Patella strike will confirm your technique is better, so then you could start using your normal amount of weight again.

your using quads to initiate the lift, pushing yur knees forward

think pushing your heels into the ground and coming straight up with your head as your hips come forward

Scary. We agree again.

Straighten the legs first, then straighten the back.

An over/under grip will make it easier to hold onto the bar.

Deadlifts are one of the all time great exercises. Resolve your form and keep at it. (Or wear Lindsay Lohan leggings--with the padded knees.)

I think mostly you straighten the legs then the back. It is done in a continuum so it is hard to say when the legs stop and the back starts. But when I dead lift, I have chin up slightly and I do most of the "squat" portion first and then straighten up the back. I think that is fairly normal for deadlifts.

no it's not

hips come forwqard and head comes up at the same time

as soon as your arse rises up, your lower back is doing all the lift and wholla, you can't bend for years and years and years

it's a hip dominant movement but that way there is limited hip involvment
