Is running on a treadmill a waste of time?
If I run for about 45 mins on atreadmill set at an incline and at a moderate ppace, am I going to get a decent workout, or am I wasting time?
Sometimes I just don't feel like running on the road.

Re: Using a treadmill
Instead of doing the 45 minute moderate run, why not do sprints or intervals on the treadmill? Change it up, don't do the same thing everyday. The treadmill is a great way to do HIIT, it takes less time than a long slow run, it is more interesting - works you harder. I guarantee you won't get bored!
I use treadmill 3 times a week for HIIT intervals. This is what I do:
warmup 3 minutes, slow
3 to 4 intervals of: 90 sec. moderate pace / 30 secs. fast pace (total interval time = 8 minutes)
after the intervals walk slow for 5 minutes then
20 minutes of steady running at the moderate pace of your 90 sec. interval time.
so the total workout time for 4 intervals / 5 slow / 20 steady = 33 minutes
Your 30 sec. fast pace should be as fast as you can manage, the 90 secs. is your recovery time, then right back into a 30 sec. sprint. If you do that 4 times, then do the 5 min. slow and 20 min. steady, you will have done a very effective treadmill workout.
You can add an one interval set each week until you reach 6 intervals, then you can start back at 3 or 4 intervals, but increase your speed a bit on the sprints.
There are many forms of HIIT training - do some research, try different things

Re: Using a treadmill
You got excellent advice already, I just want to add that I use treadmill for hill runs. Warm-up first then start adding hill intervals. Vary the height, duration etc.
Cheers!
