How many total sets should I do in a workout?

Post by edokid »

Hey everyone,

I just started working out again a little while ago, goal is to gain muscle mass and get much bigger. I've decided to split workout into 3 or 4 days a week, doing 2 body parts such as day 1 shoulders/chest, day 2 legs, day 3 biceps/triceps, day 4 back/abs etc.

I'm just curious, how many total sets should I do? Like tonight I'm going to do chest/shoulders. How many sets for shoulder and how many for chest should I do before it's too much and I don't get results?

Also, if I do a routine like this should I split the sets up among all parts, such as front middle and rear deltoids? Or should one week I just do front, and then the next week rear and so on? Doesn't seem that that would be beneficial so I'm assuming do them all, just more curious how many total sets I should be looking at. Thanks so much!

something like this in your case:

thighs and hams: 8 - 10
back: 7 - 9
chest shoulders: 5 - 7
bi's and tris: 3 - 4

you can divide them how you want
