just starting out ... not sure where to start though...

Post by jsanfilippo5 »

Im new on the forum and it looks like a great place - Hoping to learn and share alot with you guys -

so wife and I have been planning on starting a gym membership. I feel that i gym membership would be best becasue we have options, and I know that if Im paying for it- I WILL go...

Let me give you a guys a bit of background- Im 30 Years old, i have a nice pot (heart attack) and general an unhealthy person, I eat bad, i have high cholesterol and I need to change that.. The most excercise I get is when I play golf, I walk- I never ride in a cart, and I am also a weddin photographer on the weekends so Im walking around for a good 8-12 hours..

Im looking to start doing some excercise at the gym, but not really sure where to start- I figured id spend some treadmill time, but not sure what else to do... I NEVER did any kind of excercise before...

Thanks for all the help!!

Hi and welcome to the site!

Exercising AND diet (Eating HEALTHY) will help you reach your goals!

You want to be healthy – Eat healthy! It’s not a short term diet it’s a long term life style change!

Gym is great but look at your grocery shopping list first!

Example:

For breakfast – Try to have high fiber cereal and have some protein with it (Scramble egg whites) 1 cup of coffee is fine… Black coffee is better and bitter… YUM! :P

Try to have small meals every 2.5 – 3 hours. Have complex carbs, lean proteins, good fats, fruits & lots of veggies.

Workout:

Weights – Full body workout 3 times a week. (Legs, back, chest, shoulders, arms)

Cardio –
Tradmill is good… go with the speed you’re comfortable with then slowly increase it.
Elliptical, bike, stair master… are good too. Get use to the machine first then vary them out every time you do cardio… then slowly challenge yourself..
Please no more than 1 hour max… and try to do at least 30mins if you can.
2-3 times a week for cardio is good for your heart…
Again, try to pace yourself and see how comfortable you are with the machine then slowly challenge yourself and increase the intensity.

Write down what you eat and what time you eat so people in here can suggest what you can improve on :D
