Question about straight arm pull down and type of bar...

Post by teppum42 »

I have done straight arm pull downs a couple of times and usually just used the longer bar that was already on there (like used for wide lat pull downs).

The other day I tried it with a shorter bar (like people use for triceps) and found it a lot harder for me. I then put the longer bar on, and was able to do the exercise, so I know it wasn't just a fluke of a day.

Does that make sense that the length of bar would change the exercise? I'm wondering if the longer bar helps with balancing, so using the shorter bar makes me work harder to balance? So, should I use the shorter bar even though at first I will have to decrease weight?

I usually just had hands at shoulder width apart- does that sound right?

Thanks!!

It will have a different effect yes. It's exactly like having a wide Bench Press Grip, as opposed to a Short Bench Press Grip. one of those hits Triceps more, one less.

your grip should be about shoulder width either bar you use
