eating before workout?

Post by fitoverforty »

daily run or workout time is between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
I never eat before workout, which might be as much as 4 to 7 miles during the week and a long run of 8 to 10 miles on the weekend.
Sometimes I will have a "goo" gel about 15 to 20 minutes before I run, and I always drink a bottle of water with a "energy" drink stick added.
question is: Should I try to eat something before I run, and how soon after eating should I run, and lastly, what is the best thing to eat for energy? I seem to run out of energy, or feel really tired alot of mornings and it is a real struggle to get out the door to workout.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just eat something like asmall bowl of Cereal, and I'd add a bit or protein in there, to spare muscle, like a few Egg White or a bit of Chicken etc etc.

Give the meal time to digest for about 30 minutes, then go running.

Hi there,

I've always found that a banana and small protein shake work well for me in the mornings. This is a quick eat, and involves no preparation. Also... the banana seems to digest really quickly... I'm usually good to go about 30 minutes after eating it.

Yep. Most Fruit takes about 30 minutes to digest, because of the lack of Protein and Fat, so as Cassie says, a worthy consideration.

thanks so much for the tips and advice! I will try the protein shake and banana. It sounds pretty quick and easy and not hard to digest. I really need a good energy boost in the a.m. to improve endurance. :D
