Question

Post by bdavis »

I just started working out again. I lifting 3 days a week and doing cario 3-4 days a week. I've also, cut calories under 2500 per day and currently weigh 225 the trick though is I've gaind like 3 lbs since starting this. I'm not a heavy lifter but do start out w/ about 155 on the bar and work up to 300 lbs. Why am I gaining weight instead of losing

i would recommend doing lower rep ranges and high sets (10 x 3) with 30 - 45 secs rest with a 5RM. How much wt do you want to lose and what is your body fat %. I wouldn't cut calories anymore as you'll end up losing muscle. Alaso becuase you've just restarted training you might be having a retraining effect where your muscles are remembering how big and strong they used to be. Maybe some high intensity interval cardio too like the tabata method which is 4mins doing 20 secsonds hard as you can with 10secs rest in between.
