I am 19 years old, and Ive gained a bit of weight since high school, I used to do Track and Field, and that kept me pretty slim, but since I got out life has become pretty sedentary. I am not at the point where I feel sore if I go out and try to do anything at all...I just am confused on what I should be doing. goal is to slim down to a manageable size before I try any weight training.
I don't need diet tips, I know how to eat healthy, drink water, eat vegetables, etc. Its more like I need help because I hear so much rumor on what the "best" way is, and I really don't want to waste effort like if working out 2 days in a row is actually bad for me, stuff like that...I looked on the internet but its just so much mixed information, one guy tells you to do this, one guy tells you to buy his DVD...I just want some honest advice on how to go about doing this.

I would suggest something like this.
Day 1. Weights
Day 2. Cardio
Day 3. Weights
Day 4. Day off
Day 5. Cardio
Day 6. Weights
Day 7. Day off
The Cardio only needs to be around 30 minutes a time. Something like Interval would be fine.
If you've not done weights before, or it's been a long time, I'd suggest TBT stuff, which an instructor can set up, where you do 2 sets per muscle group, and you do it 3 times a week as stated above, then you slightly increase weight per week, and do that for 4-6 weeks, until your body is properly adapted to the biomechanics of lifting.
