correct benching

Post by ramborogers »

right i need something cleared up please
at gym alot of people including those that work there tell me that when u bench you should lower the weight as much that its almost resting on your pecs so that you get the full range of movement. however alot of other people and websites say that you should not lower your elbows lower than your chest when laying down anyway.
which is correct /?? :?

depends

1 - if you get shoulder pain from going right sown to chest then no

2 - if you don;t then why not

3 - proper benching has you expanding the chest up, pulling your shoulders back while you pull the bar towards you slightly decreasing the range of motion so you could still go right down to the chest without extreme range of motion pain

there's no law about going down to the chest, same with squatting as far down as is humanly possible

I've always touched chest, and I've seen a lot of people who can't even bend down that far and get the same results. Just try to establish at least a 90 degree angle at least. I've seen too many people lower the bar roughly two inches and push it back up and call that a rep.
