Hi everyone, I am 5'6 195 lbs, was 239, problem is that I always played REAL hard and when I stopping playing so hard, I still ate like I did. So I gained a bunch. I have always been a big girl, size 12 when I was fitter. I can still play tennis for hours and love to cross country ski all day.
I have the diet under control now, using Paul McKenna methods. Basically I have added a lot of high protein foods and whey and eat veggies. I am staying away from white foods just because I really don't like them and there isn't much benefit. I started doing weights 2 weeks ago. I am currently doing free weights every other day and try to do some cardio everyday, (DDR is favorite).
Here is quandary, I want to lose weight and hubby wants me to lose weight. I live in Maine. We get LOTS of snow. On days I shovel for at least an hour (but sometimes 3 or 4 hours) Do I consider that a weight workout?
Hubby is telling me I should still workout, but I get tired. Should I suck it up and do the regular full body workout on top of shoveling?
~Patty
PS I overdid it with the abs the other day and I still really hurt (after 2 days) I am used to be sore for one, but this hurts. Is this normal?
Ok I am FAT but not all that unfit, help with exersice

- put the wts down and do some bodyweight stuff first...i suggest "your body is a barbell" by alwyn cosgrove
- do cardio on non resistance days
- does your hubby need to lose wt? i would never say to the fiance "lose wt"
- 3 - 4hrs is definately a workout, use that as a cardio workout though

Paul McKenna is all about intuituve eating and hypnosis. It works for me and I can stick to it easily. He has four rules to eating but the rule that has helped me the most, is to eat consciously. I eat food like a wine connoisseur drinks wine, I savor it. That way stomach has time to tell brain when I am starting to get satisfied. Before, I ate too fast and by the time brain said enough to the food, I had already overeaten. I can see those bad habits in kids and I am trying to slow down their eating pace before they get fat. And of course I only put healthy food on the table. I sneakily plugged in their weight, height and age in to a child's BMI calculator and two of them are "in danger of being overweight".
Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll get it. Just curious, but why not use weights?
The hubby doesn't need to lose weight at all. He wants me to be healthy first, and "cute as a button" is just a good side effect of being healthy. He encourages me and never makes me feel bad, well except when the shoveling comes in. (I live in a very rural area, the snowblower broke and the hubby's job is too far away to come home during the week, so he stays at the job site, therefore, I have to shovel because he isn't here) He kinda made me feel like I was slacking, which made me a touch angry.
He is a runner and I tried to start running with him, but it is just not thing. So tedious... anyway, I do know I need to put more cardio in during the week, (whenever it isn't snowing) I like to XC ski but the weather is fickle. for example, it was 40 degrees two days ago and raining, this morning it is 2. brr. I sometimes do the Dance Dance Revolution on the playstation, it is a great cardio workout especially when I am challenging the resident teens, because I like to beat them.

he doesnt sound very supportive to me. Admittedly i have never been overweight but if i was i really dont think partner would ever tell me i needed to ,lose weight etc!!
I have to admit Paul McKennas method is very good. Why?? As it is the way we should all eat - eat slowly, chew food, stop when you are full etc
Keep up the good work

body ia a barbell question
I have a few questions about You Body is a Barball workout.
1. Whats the difference between a single leg RDL and a single leg deadlift? I watched some youtube videos and they seem to be the same.
2. I can't do mixed grip chins, what can I do in place of it?
Other than that it is a great workout. Thanks for the info.

understanding
I have some understanding of what your saying about your hubby. He sounds like he may be some what like mine. husband loves me very much but he also wants me to be healthy. I think it is ok for your hubby to support you in your weight loss as long as it is being supportive and not jeopardizing you in your weight loss goals.
I think if you eat right like you've been doing and exercise. For me I think when your overweight(as I am also) we need cardio as much if not more then weights. I have been doing 45 to 1 hour of cardio plus one day legs one day arm weights until I feel fatigued. I love running so that is what I do but power walking is just as effective. I do think that you need to do something besides shoveling snow off the ground. I know that is hard but that is just working some muscles trust me when I say power walking will hit the spot(walking as fast as you can).
Hope you get answers to all your questions.

Actually you will yeild more result and better weight loss if you incorporate HIIT as your cardio and paired with a good weightlifting program, your metabloism, will rev up, hence better results. Of course you must eay clean too and that will help tremendously. I'm not saying that running isn't great, because I love to run. HIIT is more effective for the goal you are trying to attain;)cherylhop27 wrote: For me I think when your overweight(as I am also) we need cardio as much if not more then weights. that is a great link for HIIT, it explained a lot. I am going to make up a few courses in DDR like HIIT until it is nice enough outside, we have mud season right now, but that means that spring is soon to be here.
I do have to add cardio. I hate it, I don't know why. I love weight training and have a hard time taking a rest day, sometimes I don't.I wish that I lived closer to a gym so maybe if I were in a class it would help. You know to be with people with similar goals. I tried to run with husband using a couch to 5k program and was miserable. I really dislike that. I am looking forward to tennis. As soon as the court clears. I am playing tennis for about two hours a day. I can hike all day and swim daily. I just have a hard time following along to those silly videos with the super skinny people telling me how I am doing great.
husband is a great person and a great help to weight loss. If he says something that hurts fat feelings, he doesn't mean it. We always eat healthy, I have simply eaten too much because I was eating too fast. And i had been doing that for a long time. No more.
