You need ot also make sure you have a good type for your style.

Some people have a neutral running style, some Supinate, (Ankle moves outwards), some Pronate, (Ankle moves inwards), and it's important you get the right cushioning, and you may need to consider possibly some orthotics to help.

i worked at finish line over winter break, but didn't learn much about running shoes. i always liked running in nike shox though even though the heel of the shoe is usually kind of loose. nikes were definately the most popular with people, maybe because of the brand but also for some of them you can put an ipod chip in your shoe and it tells you your pace, your time, distance, and supposedly how many calories you've burned

Something like that that feels a bit loose isn't too bad, providing the heel part doesn't move too much, and cause rub or friction, as you could get Blisters on your feet, and that would be a potential run killer.
