Pre-Half Marathon Meals?

Post by Hope4Life »

with boyfriend being a runner like crazy and learning myself, i know the week before race day should consist of a lot of carbs.

I am wondering what is good to eat as the BREAKFAST before the start? i know should be eatin at least an hour or so before hand but what kind of things and foods for example would be best bet to eat before this?

not sure if protien or sugars should be involved...i know fatty stuff shouldnt be there. altho i am getting very attached to instent oatmeal made with a couple tablesppons of peanutbutter and cinamon! mmm talk about stick to your ribs LOL that is a meal that lasts me a while and easy digested. im leaning towards this as pre race day meal but if anyone knows of anything better...please feel free to make and state their opinion! thanks!

the morning of tye rwce might be a bit different as nerves may come into play but what you'd have every other day should be fine as you should have carb loaded in the days leading up to it i'd think

Well have friend of mine, who's a powerlifter not a marathon runner but still, told me that the day BEFORE, before bed take a huge pasta meal ...

for the breakfast of the marathon ... well the same as usually ? Protein + Fruit + Source of carbs ...

Yeah, I think you should probably go for quite a bit of Carbs. Things like Cereal, Whole-grain Bread, Even some Pasta, as you will need to make sure you're spiking up your Glycogen levels.

I would of course though add some Protein in there, like some Eggs, or a bit of Chicken with your Pasta as examples.

saturday is the half marathon and that night is the pasta dinner for our organization. to load up the full marathoners. but being in downtown disney the night before race, im sure we will find a good place to eat. :) i know the deal with eating lots of carbs before hand...just morning of is the new thing.....thinking a bagel and egg could be a better thing to do....im hoping nerves does play a part in it....but in the part of helpping push me farther faster....we will see...just want to make sure i eat what i should be :)

For first half marathon, I made the mistake to only eat some oatmeal before the race and by the end I was DEAD! Next time I know, I have to eat more!
