Hi,
I am 41 year old and had been working out for about 5 months.
I have been reading everywhere that the weights should be 70-75% of your 1RM. But is it true even for us who are above 40? Or should we be a little safer & go with lower weights?
I am asking this because I have developed peritendinitis calcarea (calcific deposits on the tendon) of the left shoulder & undergoing treatment. I am off the exercise for about two weeks now & feeling miserable.
training routine is as under -
Day 1 - Chest & triceps
Decline B/B press - 3 sets
Bench press - 3 sets
Incline D/B press - 2 sets
D/B flies - 3 sets
O/H tricep extension - 3 sets
tricep pushdown - 3 sets
rev. tricep dips - 2 sets
Day 2 - Back
Bent over B/B row - 3 sets
Seated rows - 3 sets
Lat pulldown - 3 sets
D/B pullover - 2 sets
D/B shrugs - 3 sets
deadlift - 3 sets
Day 3 - Cardio / Abs
for abs, decline crunches & leg raises
Day 4 - Legs
Squats - 3 sets
Hack squat - 2 sets
leg press - 3 sets
leg extension - 3 sets
leg curl - 3 sets
stiff legged deadlift - 3 sets
calf raises - 3 sets
Day 5 - same as day 3
Day 6 - Shoulders & biceps
O/H D/B press - 3 sets
Upright row - 2 sets
front raises - 3 sets
lat. raises - 2 sets
preacher curl - 3 sets
bicep curl - 2 sets
hammer curl - 3 sets
body stats are -
Height - 5'4"
Weight - 55-56 kg
Body fat - about 12%.
Would appreciate some help from the experienced guys.

wts need to be heavy for you, not a % of what you can lift...if you were doing sets of 3 then 75% would be easy...do it for 12 reps and ot would probably be hard...it all depends on your goal which detirmines rep range which detirmines the wt used
i know that calcificaltion locks up joints unless you have surgery so what you do will depend on how you respond to the treatment
that being said you've got 10 exercises that isn't doing your shoulder any favours and another 12 that i never prescribe
i suggest you get out of "bodybuilding" mode and get into "performance enhancing" mode with your training
