Becoming a personal trainer

Post by rynuku »

hey i think i want to be a personal trainer...i love working out...started as a new years resolution and so far its changed life...i love trying to help other people get in shape recommending exercises that i know and little tips here and there....im actually going to train at the national personal training institute pretty soon....already put in registration money...orientation is comin up soon. just kinda nervous...i know once i get going ill be good at it because this has become a passion for me...the gym is like place of zen...i forget about problems and im just happy training and helping other people train...

ill probably learn all of this stuff in the class but like i said im just nervous

if anyone has anything they can let me know about being a personal trainer i would appreciate it...like

-how would i get first job
-is it a good career
-are there jobs available
-is the money ok

ive researched alot of this stuff by myself but never actually talked to any personal trainers...i know theres a few on here and some people with just general knowledge...

i know im getting foot in the door going to this school....just been so confused lately and i wanna make sure im starting off right

most courses aren't that great (not over here anyway) and you
ll learn most of your stuff from self education, training yourself, others etc

1st job - offer your time in the hope of getting a job there or go to a big gym chain where there are lots of clients

yes i think it but you need to work at it

there are jobs available in anything if your good at it

you'll earn as much money as youtr prepared to work for really, early morn...late nights etc

in a rush so if you post more i can give more details

You've already committed yourself to the program, so dive in and don't look back. Self doubt never helps anything.
The market for PT's is the same as anything, what you put in you'll get out.
Do not offer your time for free, unless it is in a volunteer situation (special needs seniors etc.) In a gym you are just setting yourself up to be known as "the guy who will help/train with me at low to no cost".
Set-up some informational interviews with gym owners to see what they are looking for in a PT. Networking will open many doors for you. I got job before I took the course by shopping around for a gym I wanted to work at and comparing it to the credentials they required. When I found what I thought was a good program and knew was a good gym, I signed up and they offered me work right away.
