Eating crappy and losing weight
bear with me for a minute -----CAN you not eat clean and still lose weight by ensuring that you maintain a caloric deficit through exercise?
I ask because, i havent been watching what I eat during the past month, and I've still managed to maintain as well as keep losing. What I do is, if I know I consumed 3000 calories for example, I aim for a 1000-1,200 calorie workout that day...and it appears to be working. Now mind you, I'm leaving health out of the equation...i'm just talking about caloric intake and losing.
Does this make sense to anyone? or has anyone had this experience?

I see what you mean...but what if you are still lifting? i mean, doesn that in itself build muscle?
also, what about if its fried chicken ---the chicken still has adequate protein, right? its just that its been compromised by the frying - which in a way equates to crappy food, but its still chicken ---am i making sense?

as long as you get all your calories and proteins you wont loose muscles if you lift.
If you only lift and eat donnuts then you will gain fat and loose muscles.
Loose fat and maintain muscles is only doable with a 100% clean diet.
With a shitty diet you will :
Gain FAt and muscle or loose muscle and gain fat.

I think you misunderstood ---i meant i am taking health out of the equation for the purpose of this discussion.swanso5 wrote:you cannot out train a bad diet...read 100 times
i'm taking health out of the equation?? why?? what's the point?? just sit on the couch and eat trans fats straight out of the cup..
Er...this was just a theory i wanted to hear what everyone has to say. I fell off the horse a little, ate badly for a few weeks, and still lost so it just made me curious. Thats all. Guys, breathe!!!!!!

Depends on the Frying. Deep Frying a la fast food outlets, would probably sacrifice more Chicken Protein, than slower, more casual frying in a Pan, and ultimately be lower calorie, not being engorged in bad fats.
However if you fried in a Pan, at a low heat, and did it that way, or used something like a George Foreman, then you would still have adequate Protein to bulk with.

I'm sorry, that isn't the way to go.
Your body is very comfortable with whatever weight you're at now. When you try and shock it by reducing calories it goes into "starvation mode". Meaning it will conserve energy. It also means that once you've came out of a deficit based diet, that it will "stock up for the winter" sort of, and you will very easily and very quickly REGAIN weight.
For example: I was 190 pounds 2 years ago. I had financial issues that severely reduced income for food. I lost 17 pounds in a month. I had little energy and I was constantly hungry.
After coming out of this financial issue, I returned to eating the same way I had when I was 190 pounds. BOOM. Shot right up to 220 pounds in 3 WEEKS!
I have since then been a little bit more self conscious of what I eat, work out 3-5 times a week, take a protein supplement.
I can now run 5-10km, lift 50% more weight, have 3" off waist, I rarely get tired, and guess what...I STILL weigh 190 pounds.
The moral of the story: Weight loss and healthy weight loss are two entirely different things. If you want to look healthy it's a lifestyle, your results now is a temporary thing, unless you keep at it. (unless you have killer genetics)
