I am new to this forum, and I apologize if this question has already been covered, I did not have time to read all the forum posts.
I have started running/walking on a treadmill in the mornings, I usually do one of the programs that change it up with different speeds and different inclines every minute or so. Depending on the time I have I do either 30 or 40 minute programs. I usually do this first thing in the morning right after I get up...before I eat. I have plenty of energy to get through the workout. So the question is....is it ok to do this without eating? Is it better or worse for me? thought was that then I am burning stored fat/energy instead of just burning the carbs I ate prior to working out. I am trying to lose about 10 pounds.
Think about it. Excercise lowers Bloodsugar, so why do it when Bloodsuar is low anyway? logically it makes no sense.
Have some sort of Protein and Carbs. I would suggest something like a piece of Fruit and a Protein shake. If you have about 1/2 scoop of Protein and something like an Apple, that's only about 130 cals, so no biggie. Fruit digests quickly Protein shake does too. Just give yourself a bit of time to digest them, don't just train within 5 minutes or something like that, give Fruit about 15 minutes, then have the shake.
Thank you Boss Man and swanso5....can either of you suggest a good protein shake that does not taste gritty? I don't suppose a SlimFast High Protein Shake is what you mean....it has 190 calories and 15g of protein, I like those.
Hmm. Thing is it has 15g Protein, 60 calories, so that leaves 130 calories of Carbs and Fat.
Assuming the Fat calories probably less than 4g I would estimate. That's at most 36 Calories Fats, so 94 calories Carbs, is about 23.5.
On reflection that's no too bad, so I don't see any reason not to do that.
Another thought is you could possibly increase speed of recovery, as if you're using dietry Carbs to run, you might not need to source as much Glycogen for energy, so in that instance you'd speed up the recovery process after runs.
Thank you....I will start with that, and you are close....Fat is 5g....Carbs 23g....Fiber 5g....Sugars 13g....Potassium 550mg.....and a bunch of Vitamins and Minerals. In reading the forums it looks like I'm going to have to fit in some weight training if I really want to get anywhere, so I will try to figure that out next. I'm sure I will have lots of questions once I figure out some time.
Hi,
good advice to eat first. There are those who do cardio on an empty tummy and feel they have great results. However, those who do cardio on an empty tummy are more likely to be hungrier throughout the day and may end up eating more. Counterproductive.
