Hi all, I'm new to the forum and I have a quick question. I usually strength train; heavy weights, low reps, longer recovery time. I have one of those annoying body types that doesn't like to gain weight of any kind without me fighting tooth and nail for it. I did a 12 week program, gained all of 6 pounds (which is really good for me). We had a house fire and for the past couple of months I hadn't been able to go to the gym. I lost all 6 pounds in half the time it took me to gain it. Now I'm going back to the gym but I'd like to do some higher reps and lighter weights just to get some of muscular endurance up and maybe lose a little fat.
Here's the thing. After about 8 weeks I'm planning on going back to heavy strenth training schedule. Everything I've read as told me that, for body type, and especially to gain muscle and strength, to stay away from aerobics for the most part. Problem is that I have to take a physical fitness test in a couple of months where I have to run 1 1/2 miles in under 13 minutes. This means that I have to do cardio 5 or more times a week. I'm afraid its going to undercut gains, and I have to work hard enough as it is. Does anyone have any advice to minimize loses during this cardio phase? Any advice for body type and strength training would be cool too. Thanks.
