what to eat after workout

Post by heidi_sweetclover »

Ok, if I am trying to lose inches, and tone muscles... what types of foods are best for eating right after excersise (assuming it is atleast moderately vigorous excersise)?? Carbs? Protein?

Heidi, I think you asked about nutrition on your last thread but you didn't give a good listing of what you eat now. If you post your food and exercise, it will be a lot easier for people to give you pointers.
Generally, protien is the recommendation for post-workout.
Search for info about macronutrient balance.

vigorous wts you want a 2:1 carbs:protein ratio at about 50 - 70 grams carbs : 20 - 30g protein

vigorous cardio such as sprints or intervals go with a 1:1 and 30:30

regular shitty cardio a gatorade or peice of fruit should do the trick here

Protein + carb drink for post workout so it gets into your system quickly. Protein for muscle recovery and carb to replenish your carbs that you've used up when working out, so that the body doesn't target your muscles for energy. 60-90 minutes, eat your protein + carb meal for continuous recovery.

Just eat a healthy meal. recommendation are a 4:1 carb/protein ratio after cardio. After weights closer to 2:1. Limit fat. Also, don't wait too long after your workout to eat. You body wants to start the recovery process after your workout ends and needs that food in order to do so.
