Can I use weights 2 days in-a-row?

Post by kimberchick »

Hi - exercise routine is cardio 3x week and weights 3x week. One of cardio workouts is low-impact aerobics that incorporates light 2-5 lbs weights. I've been advised not to use the weights because I shouldn't use weights 2 days in a row. I'm thinking 2 lbs is an awful light weight. I've been doing the workout w/out the weights but would like to incorporate them for the extra burn and sculpting. To clarify: you only use the weights for half the workout and you start out with 2 lbs for the whole routine then increase to 3 lbs eventually maxing out at 5 lbs. Any advice on whether or not it would be okay to do the workout with the weights even though I worked with weights the day before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

It probably wouldn't be detrimental to go ahead and use the light weights on your cardio days. However, I'm wondering if it's not that challenging is it really the best workout for you? You could possibly have better progress from doing some days of sprints and some days of steady state cardio. There are so many different ways to do it. Let me know if I can help at all.

Thanks Sarah 8) I think workout is pretty challenging on cardio days I do 30 min of interval training on the elliptical then either 30 min of low-intensity aerobics or 30 min interval training on a stationary bike. I'm not looking to develop so much as tone and strengthen muscles. weight routine uses weights ranging from 5-65 lbs. concern is that by using the lighter weights on the day after I've worked with the heavier weights muscles won't be able to recover so I won't reap the benefits of working with weights. Any thoughts :?:

I do weights 3-4 days in a row. I just work different body parts each time. I have never heard of not doing weights two days in a row. What I have always heard is never to work the same body parts consecutively.
