I am starting football in about 2 weeks any workouts that can improve speed since I am a running back? I heard that core exercises will make you faster.....is that true?

a strong core will have you transferring lower and upper body power more efficiently but in 2 weeks you won't increase a great deal if at all...before anything get your squat numbers up to 1.5 x your bodyweight in pds and that will get you faster without anything else

when you say 1.5 your bodyweight does that mean you have to squat 210lbs if you weigh 140? and how many reps do you have to do?

you need a strength base before doing anything else for legs such as plyometrics as you need to stengthen the joints for impact from jumping, bounding, landing etc as when you land from a jump you can be absorbing 5 x your bodyweight depending on the ...the more force you can put in, the more you can put out...think of pulling a rubber band back 5cms and letting it go compared to pulling back 20cms...so as a genral rule, a 1.5 x bw squat and / or deadlift is required to prepare yourself for this...being able to do this once is enough but with perfect technique and depth though and then yu should continue to get stronger in that lift so you have even more potential for speed, vertical leap etc
