What's the deal with Basal Metabolic Rates (BMR)?

Post by BCS ADRENALINE »

I sort of understand BMR, but I have these questions.

Does BMR equal the amount of calories I should eat in a day?

If so, how does working out tie into calorie consumption and the BMR?

By the way here's BMR's
Sedentary(I Don't do anything): 2451
Lightly Active: 2549
Moderately Active: 2941
Very Active: 3333
Extremely Active: 3921

...And if anything else some general info on BMR would be much appreciated.

Thank You

to maintian wt and bodily functions to your body's need, yes

you need to increase cal's on top of bmr to cater for extra cal use during training

those figures seem around the mark for activity levels

at no point do you want bmr to drop as weight gain (fat) will be the result...if bmr is high and you struggle to gain muscle than you're best served cutting down training days and / or vol allowing more cal's to be used as growing material

So when I exercise I need to eat BMR and then more calories as well to compensate?

spot on, start with 250 more calories a day and increase by 50 per day if your not gaining muscle until you find yout "sweet spot"
