Why don't I lose weight?

Hey, I am a 47 y/o , use to be in good shape. I have recently returned to the gym to get back into shape and lose some weight. I have been going to the gym 4 to 5 days a week, 45 minutes cardio, alternating upper body and lower body weight training every other day , also swim 40 laps daily. I started 6 weeks ago and weighed 250 lbs. Today I weighed in at 249. I have reduced calorie intake by 1/3. Very frustrated about not losing any weight. Any advice on what I may be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ken, good to speak with you.

What I think has happened is, you're actually doing too much and may be slightly under eating as well.

A lot of people struggle to lose weight because they replace bad food with good food, but it's the wrong portion sizes I:E a fried breakfast versus a boiled egg, a 1,000 calorie pizza versus a chicken salad with about 180 calories in it.

Also if you're doing too much cardio you risk burning muscle and added muscle burns and extra 45-50 calories per day for every additional lb, but if you lose muscle, you could be in danger of creating the reverse effect.

I'd say what with the weights and the swimming and cardio one thing should go.

I'd favour right now the cardio. Keep the weights and the swimming and ditch the cardio, as I think your exercises is too much and also keep the swimming to 4-5 days as well, so you're giving yourself a couple o days off in the week to rest and recover.

In relation to your diet, what times do you eat at and what foods do you eat at those times?

Are you strictly going by the scale, or do you notice in changes in how your clothes fit?
