30 minutes of cardio

Post by EmKay »

Hello everyone :)
I have a few questions regarding cardio exercise.
I'm a stay-at-home mom of a 1 year old and from the time I got pregnant till now, I have had a rather inactive lifestyle. I sleep, eat, watch tv, eat, sleep and thats it. This laziness has caused me to gain a lot of weight. Recently I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes also. I have controlled blood sugar thru diet and a few pills.
But I realize that I have to lose lots of weight also in order to lead a normal life while being diabetic. I have cut down on carbs and try maintaining a protein diet which includes, eggs, chicken, nuts & pulses. It hasn't helped me in losing weight on the scale, but bg is maintained.
I downloaded a workout by the name of Tae Bo Cardio by Billy Banks and have been doing it since the last 2 days.
question is that will Tae Bo help me lose weight if I do it daily, along with a protein & low carb diet? Its a 40 min long workout and I usually sweat a lot during it. But that's only exercise all day. The rest of the day I'm not very active.
Will Tae Bo + diet help me lose weight given routine the rest of the day?

Yes it could, but be careful on the diet changes. Some people make wholesale changes not realising that whilst a lot of poor nutrition and calories are purged, so can be a lot of good nutrition.

Think of a 1,500 calorie pizza versus a salad with a bit of chicken, cucumber, lettuce and tomato. You might only get around 200 or less calories from the salad and some nutrition including healthy fats and things like vit a, vit d and maybe vit b, wouldn't even be in the salad, but would in the pizza, from things like cheese and mushrooms, so the massive reduction in calories and bad fat comes with a tradeoff, because people lose good things from their diet they don't actively replace sometimes.

This means that some people may be increasing a risk of thinning bones, from lack of nutrients that directly or indirectly promote bone health and maybe even things like immune system suppression and anaemia encouragement might occur.

Also be aware that because of the activity, if you have too few calories your body could create a starvation mode, where it thinks it's being starved and clings on to fat.

You still need carbs for regulating bloodsguar, influencing mood hormones and brain function and providing a primary energy source, so I'd suggest no lower 20% per meal at lowest except perhaps the last one of the day and around 30% might be more beneficial.

The main thing here is to be really proud of yourself, for finding the wherewithall to think of yourself more and for actively pursuing it.

You have a chance to make change a real possibility and I hope it works out for you.

If you need any more adivce, help, support or whatever, we are here for you Em :).

You've done a brilliant thing and I'm proud of you and you CAN do this and I'm sure you WILL do this, to enable you to be an even greater rolemodel to your child, than I think you might be already.

GOOD LUCK

If you get tired or bored of your workout routine, you can also do other things to workout too. You can workout at home just using your body weight. You can also try cardio kick boxing. There’s a bunch of stuff here on the site also on youtube if you need to look up for different kinds of workout to keep you motivated. You are doing a great job starting out with diet and exercise! Keep it up :)

Yes, I definitely think that Tae Bo Cardio is a great start! As long as you are getting a good workout from it and feeling the intensity, you should be able to burn calories. If you feel the workout isn't challenging anymore, then it would be time to look into another program. The key is to stay active and do the sessions as scheduled. Keep up the good work!
