hey there guys im new here on the forums and im looking for some advice on losing some weight
so lets start off with some info - i am 20 years old, 5' 11" and i weigh about 200 pounds im wanting to get down to about 170 hoping thatll be about the target weight to rid most of gut because frankly its depressing . some other info when i was in high school senior year i was 160 lbs and it was really easy to be / stay in shape since i ran track and played football but as you can see after high school i have gained quite a few pounds since i dont really have a outlet for exercising . what im thinking is to start off by walking, the last couple days ive been walking about 1-2 hrs a day ( the dog freaking loves it ) split between morning and night . also i did some research and thats about 300-600 calories on the conservative side i think . diet wise im not really gunna do much except limit food intake like just regular 3 meals and plenty of water, nothing else if i can help it ( sweets are so tempting ) . well thats enough rambling i suppose heres some actual questions , will gut go away as i lose more weight ? is idea good for starters to lose some weight ?( i plan to jog soon im just not used to exercise pretty much at all right now ) . would it be reasonable to think about reaching goal in about 6 months ?
thanks , miller

The time for your goal is doable, because around 26 weeks to lose 30-40 lbs is allowing a lot of leeway, as that's around 1.2-1.5lbs a week, so if you could average 2lbs a week you'd be at your target before 6 months is up.
As for losing the gut, the gut would go with weight loss, as the gut is partly going to be influenced by subcutaneous fat and water, so losing weight would be gut friendly and in terms of the walking, you'll be fine if you're doing that much a day split.
