Quick question about whey protein shakes
Hey, I've got some whey protein shake mix that is meant for use after workouts (though it also says that you can drink one every day in addition to this). I recently started a more intense workout and as a result I'm sore a lot. question is, will drinking this whey protein shake while I'm sore help me recover faster? It seems like it would since presumably body needs protien to repair its sore muscles, but I'm no fitness expert.
Re: Quick question about whey protein shakes
Soreness is often DOMS, (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and occurs within 24-48 hours of a workout.
Protein shakes can help you recover but I don't think they do an awful lot to relieve the DOMS, although it dissipates in time anyway as i'm sure you'ere aware of now.
You may find the workout you're doing, becomes something that causes less of it as time goes by, when the muscles become a little more accustomed to what is happening to them.

Re: Quick question about whey protein shakes
I always have a whey, or soy/whey combo protein shake after workouts. You also may not be eating enough at breakfast. I always go big with a cup of unsweetened oatmeal and a few eggwhites. I read somewhere that eating fruit with your whey after a workout helps it absorb and work better in your body. Maybe add a banana or some berries.
You may also want to try casein protein powder before bed. Your body builds and repairs muscles while your are sleeping, and casein digests slow. Try putting a half scoop or so in 8 oz of milk (which contains casein naturally) and see if that doesn't help.

experience is: while I was drinking Soy-protein shakes it really helped me, I don't know how. After getting big girl boobs I changed to whey . It seems that soy-shakes helped me more repair sore muscles then whey.
