Help! Need advice for goal weight

Post by fashiofitgirl »

I am 5'9" and weight 140lbs. I want to weigh 130lbs and tone abs to a 6pack. I have been recording a food diary using MyFitnessPal app for the last 6 weeks and haven't seen any difference in weight loss. I go to the gym 5-6 days a week alternating 6 mile runs, 45-60minute elliptical workouts, and incline walks. I also do 20 minutes of ab floor exercises (leg lifts, reverse crunches, etc) and 20 minutes of stretching each time. MyFitnessPal has goal weight at 125 programmed and suggests I get 1200calories (40g of fat, 24g of sugar, and 45g of protein) each day. When I had cardio in the app, I usually burn about 800calories from workouts and add that in to put me at about 2000cals/day. I haven't seen any differences in body expect a slight change in thigh muscle toning and very very minimal upper ab toning. I don't want to use free weights or lifting machines because I do not want to become muscular looking. As a former college athlete, muscles build up quickly and I don't want to look bulky like I used too. I just want great abs and to lose the inches I can pinch! What am I doing wrong!? Please help!

Hi there :).

Muscle is actually very healthy and an extra 1lb of muscle burns an extra 45-50 calories per day, plus it will help in old age.

However that's just a fact, not a coersion onto a specific fitness path :).

2,000 calories a day seems about right, but I'd suggest you alter your ratios.

Have you considered working with a 33/33/33 protein/carb/fat ratio.

This means consuming 666 calories protein, (165g approximately), 666 calories carbs, (165g approximately), 666 calories fat, (74g fat).

It might seeme like a lot, but you'll have a good amount of nutrients to feed your body and calories to burn.

When you break it down into 6 meals, you'll find the numbers look manageable :).
