So I started at 213 pounds..6ft even. I have gone a diet and looking to lose weight and fat. calorie limit per day is 1750. Now I use an elliptical 6 times a week for 45 minutes a day and HR stays in the mid to high 150's. Well the elliptical says for fat loss I should stay within target heart rate of 119. Is there a real benefit to this? I implemented this today and the only difference was I burned 23 less calories. Should I just stay with the 119-125 range of THR?
thank you
*** and each 45 minute elliptical session, I burn roughly 530 calories***

Ahh, the fabled fat loss zone.
I don't think there's ever been any hard evidence, or none that I've seen that the fat loss zone 60%-70% of MHR, is an optimal way to do it.
You could use the basic bodybuilding level of 80%-90% of MHR, so you'd use the old formula of 220-age to find MHR, then work within 80%-90% of that.
Sedentary men need around 2,000 calories per day, so I'd suggest having around another 400-500 a day, if you're going to go with the increased THR I suggested, which I think might be more beneficial in the long-term and certainly a few extra nutrients to promote physical wellbeing, wouldn't be a bad thing.

Having another 400-500 calories? That will still help me lose weight?
Re: Help out a newbie
It could do, because you'll be potentially burning more calories going for a higher THR, so the extra fuel and nutrients would be beneficial.
