What do you guys think about the Mediterranean Diet?

Post by ObesityOverload »

I find that I am scared to death to start diets because I don't want to starve.
doctor suggests the Mediterranean diet.
I know that it is mostly vegetarian.
I am a meat eater.
So I was wondering, what do you guys think about it? and is it worth it?

It has good science behind it from what I hear, as people from mediterranean countries have a noted longevity above a lot of other countries.

I would say though if you're concerned about protein intake, increase it a bit, whilst maintaining many if not all of the maxims the diet espouses.

Increasing protein intake a little, wouldn't be going well of piste regarding the structure of the diet, but other than that it's reckoned to be a good diet, because from memory it doesn't espouse questionable things like no Pasta or rice ever, or no this or that for 2 weeks and appear to be reccomending a bit too much restriction, so you should be fine with it.

Thank you for the reply!
I was doing the Mediterranean Diet but couldn't stick with it.
I am doing kind of a bodybuilders'/ Mediterranean diet.
I'm incorporating turkey and chicken instead of pork and beef.
It is going pretty good.

Thanks again,

This Mediterranean diet sounds cool!
I'm also thinking to give it a try.
By the way, is it good for weight loss?

Thank you! :)

Yes it can be as long as the portion sizes are not underwhelming, as the foods you would be eating are healthy, but you must be mindful of the portion sizes, as undereating will stall fat loss if you enter a starvation mode and can't lose any weight and also lack of nutrients, including ones responsible for skeletal health, could increase fracture risk if you let them get too soft or degraded and then apply aerobic and / or anaerobic forces to them, that the bones have become intolerant to.

So providing you eat an ample amount of calories per day, then a diet like that can be very beneficial for wellbeing and weight loss as well :).
