soleus pain?

Post by jennacide »

I've been working out for a month and a half combined with dieting.
I was doing a lot of cardio at first with a reduction of caloric intake while getting into a routine of going to the gym frequently so I can burn some of the fat I've accumulated over the years. I love running so the treadmill is a favorite but I think I may have over done it. I went from years of a sedentary life to 20min on the treadmill starting with walking on a slight incline. After a week of this, I started jogging 3.5-4mph for 5 minute intervals with no more than 20 total minutes of jogging total and the rest of it walking (about 40min).

I do a lot of filing at work and sometimes have to squat to get the files that are on the bottom shelf. It was then I noticed a .. sensation on the inside of leg just under midcalf. I say sensation because this hadn't registered as pain, just a tightness or discomfort. It felt like the tissue was a little tight and I was squishing it too hard against thigh when I would squat down. I ignored it and went at the cardio pretty hard, working way towards running for 20-30min and trying to break "record" of running longer than 5 minutes.

Fast forward to the present, this same spot in leg is creating more than sensation. It's pain. Especially the first few minutes of running on the treadmill but after a while goes away and then I can run 10min if I wanted to. I don't like to anymore. Any calf exercises like running, calf presses and squatting down for those files exacerbate the pain but I don't feel it when I'm sitting or standing.

Maybe I should add that I'm doing a lot more strength training now than when I started but I try to take it easy on anything working the calves now. I have 1-2 off days a week and there has been a week where I got busy with life and didn't make it to the gym but 2-3 times a week. I thought the pain and discomfort would decrease but nothing has changed.

I've tried to research soleus pain because I suspect that may be what's hurting me. From what I've read, it seems like the same thing. Any tips or suggestions? I've changed shoes since I started (dog chewed up the first pair) and stretching more but I'm at wit's end! What do I do? I guess I could lay off the lower leg workouts but then wouldn't I be imbalanced? Part of goal is to have more shapely legs so do I have to give it up?

Thanks in advance for any advice or insight!

What does the pain feel like, does it feel like a shooting pain, that goes up the soleus, does it feel like you're being stabbed, or does it feel like your Soleus is being cut?

I think it's not a nervous issue, but you might have caused a slight bit of damage, that may have healed incorrectly.
