Am I doing this wrong?

Post by newbie »

I have read the sites exercise section and I have followed some of the chest exercises (dumbbell press and the dumbbell fly's, 3 sets of 15 - both are laying flat as I don't have a bench that can incline or decline).

The thing is, the only area of chest the feels 'worked out' is upper/outer chest muscle, triceps and nowhere else. I never feel anything in lower or inner parts of chest. Am I doing anything wrong or will the rest of chest develop in time?

What are the best exercises to gain a good shape and strong chest please?

P.S - I workout at home with dumbbells and nothing else (aside from push-ups, sit-ups etc) Oh, and I'm a complete novice.

Thanks for any help.

What kind of thing have you got to assist Chest?

Flat Bench, Inclined Bench etc etc.

I only have a flat bench that can't adjusted and a set of dumbbells. Not much I know, but I have very limited space.

if your only a newbie give it time...the main thing you want to focus is to actually feel the muscles that are actually meant to be doing the exercise...you might need to go slower, faster, heavier, lighter or whatever though...also the strongest part of the muscle or exercise (i.e. if tri's are strongeer than chest which is mostly the case) than the tri's will take the brunt of the exercise and not the chest...in that regard you can do a tricep exercise such as close grip push ups to pre fatigue them so that the chest will need to do more work during the bench presses...not ideal for intermediate but very good for newbie's such as yourself

Thanks for the advice. I'll start adding that to routine today.

I would rewcommend adding push ups and dips to your routine now and again. But you don't need to do all those exercises in one workout.
