One thing thats been bugging me for a while.
Lets say i change routine up and it causes a day or two of being extra sore. Is it acceptable to take an asprin or ibprophen to get by for a couple days. boss doesnt take "i worked out too hard" as an excuse for reduced performance at work.

Well you could do, but the Soreness is DOMS, (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), so you might find an anti-inflammatory might not work.
I would imagine, that what caused DOMS, wouldn't become a reactive agent when exposed to anti-inflammatory medicines, so taking a-i's should cause side effects where DOMS was concerned, as I don't actually think DOMS is an inflammatory response, as you'd normally expect a reddening where the problem occurded, plus you'd feel a pain sensdation just before the reddening and the time delay between workouts and DOMS is too long to be typical with an inflammatory response.

BCAA's can help reduce muscle soreness, then again they can help you push harder during your session so you might end up even sorer!
Worth looking into though if you're not using them already.

I used to use a lot of different workout supplements, pre and post workout. I've done away with all of them except BCAAs since they're the Amino Acids used in skeletal muscle growth. I can't say that they're better or worse for anyone other than myself, but after I cut out protein powder and started using a basic BCAA powder in a glass of milk post workout I've stopped gaining as much weigh but continued to gain strength. In opinion they're an excellent supplement, but of course results vary with everyone. *The down side is they taste HORRIBLE. Best thing I've found to cut it with is Naked juice, but at $3 a bottle, I'll choke it down with water...T.P.W. wrote:BCAA's can help reduce muscle soreness, then again they can help you push harder during your session so you might end up even sorer!

With the soreness advice would be to stretch more, either before or after. If you're like me (and the majority of the weight lifting population) you don't do it enough or you just don't do it; another problem I used to have. As we know, stretching helps elongate muscle tissue. With that in mind, think of after you get a good lift and have that 'pumped up' feeling in your muscles. Everything is inflamed at that point and is restricting the blood and lymph system. One of the ways to help this is by stretching out those muscles so your bodies internal systems can do their jobs. This is also why nutrition is so critical for those who exercise because you fuel the systems that help this rebuilding process.

Another thing that might alieviate DOMS, aside from stretching is doing a bit of Cardio for 5-10 minutes after a workout.
