So I hurt arm 2 weeks ago, fell playing basketball with some guys. I landed on elbow and slid a little on the pavement. I went to the ER and nothing was broken, but I did hurt a lot of nerves around elbow. I couldn't work for a week and I needed a sling.
The nerves are fine now, but the bones themselves are pretty bruised. Is there anything I can do to not so much use as a "miracle cure" because of course there isn't one, but is there any food/vitamin supplement that helps aid things like this? I'm going crazy not being able to do push ups or anything. I just want strength back
There are certain types of supplements you cna take for joint health, but I'd avoid Glucosamine, as it's get a poorer reputation as time goes by.
Chitosan uses Chitin from Shellfish the same as Glucosamine, which migth be better, as long as you don't have any shellfish allergies.
You could also check out something called MSM.
You can take Vitamin C supps, as Vitamin C helps produce Collagen for bones skin and teeth, plus it's an antioxident too.
you can start with 1x 500mg in the morning, then try another 1x 500mg in the evening if you wish.
In time, you could increase to dose of 1g if you wanted. If you find any mild issues with it, try the buffered kind as it's supposed to be a little easier on the body for those with a slight issue of some kind relating to normal vit C.
There is also a supplement called Calcitriol, (synthetic vit D), which might be useful, but I'd stick with the C for now if you want to consider it.
What I suggest is you download something called Algecal
That lists your RDA's for Calcium, Magnesium, Vit D and K2 and then you can select from a list of foods that are good for those things, which ones you consumed on a given day and also alter the portion sizes too.
If you score mostly in the 80%+ range, for the respective RDA's of the 4 micronutrients listed, you should be fine if you maintain that daily, but if you're too low on one or more RDA percentages, consider options that will increase those that are low, so you can consume a more beneficial quantity per day.
Osteo products can be good for preventing Knee and joint issues, depnding on what is in them and how much of what's in them. They might have some medicinal benefit when you have an knee injury or progressive joint condition, but taking them if you wish to, should really for me be more about prevention of knee and joint problems, rather than management or reduction of them.
