stationary bike versus spin

Post by fit-fanatic-2025 »

Is there much difference between the two with regards to working out?

I meant an upright stationary. Do you have the clips for the pedals Allison? I'm a long way from getting them.

It probably does work different muscles. Thanks for your input.

Why can't you stand up? The one I used at gym you could stand up if you wanted, and it had straps already attached on the pedal - something similar to this:

'course that may be a dinasaur compared to what they have in gyms nowadays.
Using the straps will definitely work different muscles (same as on a racing bike, on the road) because you are able to use the "push/pull" motion rather than just the "push" downward motion. On racing bike I have the bike shoes w/clips that clip onto the pedals, and once you get used to it, it is great - pulling upward then pushing downward, you use every bit of the cycle to your advantage.
Happy riding ladies! :D

I've never tried clipless pedals. I have a 1992 roadbike that i used while i was in high school and not much after that for the last 20 years. I

I'm still afraid. I'm definitely not to the point where i even want shoes that clip in but if i ever get to that point i'd still be afraid to use them.

I'll be sticking to the stationary bike mostly till spring. :)

I hope to pull that out again this spring. sister and brother were on cycling teams when they were younger so they used them but i was always afraid if i needed to get out of them i couldn't in time and would go crashing
It takes a bit of practice, but they pop loose really easy, just a flick of the ankle and your foot comes right out. That being said, I have ended up on the pavement once or twice, when I didn't clip out fast enough and I tumped over - ouch, not to mention embarrassing! lol

Yes, that is what makes everyone unique. I understand your side of it...that you get a better workout with the Real Ryder bike & that's cool. :D What I like about riding a road racing bike is the feeling of powering myself down the road, feeling the wind going around me, the power of legs in every revolution, it is just a really cool feeling for me. Plus, I really like competing in the road racing events, such as triathlons and duathlons - so yes, we all have different goals, or reasons for what we like - that's what makes us all totally rad. (geez, is that an "old" expression?!) at least I didn't say "far out".
