What do you like to buy organic?
Just wondering what people like to buy. I can't afford to buy everything organic but if you were to nail it down to a few things what would it be for you.

Re: What do you like to buy organic?
I definitely want to buy organic meat. If at all possible free range. They say if you can find a local farmer that is the best way to know what kind of meat you are buying. I haven't really been eating hardly any meat lately except organic eggs.
This is list of what I was thinking of buying organic
milk, eggs, meat when i eat it, and some veggie and fruit. Its a start anyways!

I like the farmers market too! What i really would like to do is get a nice garden going in the spring/summer, that would be really nice, but we will see what happens on that end. Thanks for the link!

There was something on Medicinenet recently, about some organic foods being no better than normal ones, of which potatos was one mentioned food and I think the other two were Carrotts and Cauliflour, but I'm darned if I can find it.
I did find this one though.

Re: What do you like to buy organic?
The reason i want to eat organic meat and eggs honestly is not due to health but that i can't stand the thought of eating an animal kept in a cage its entire life. It bothers me a lot. Haven't ate any meat, (except 1 ham subway sandwich) since i started reading more about it.
I'm glad to know potatoes and carrots are no better organic. Because i like to buy baby carrots and i do like pototoes regular and sweet.
That article you had a link too kind of sounded like it was in general all organic food.
Thanks for the article Boss nice to have a different viewpoint point to consider too. I probably will just stick mostly to organic meat and eggs, and milk. Veggies and fruit I can probably get buy with what i got for a while. I have some frozen fruit picked last summer by me. And vegetables i eat, i think are pretty safe nonorganic.

I've read that leaves (spinach, any kind of lettuce, etc.), apples, and strawberries are the most effected by pesticides, so if you can get them organic, do. It was Fitness magazine a few months back.

Thanks Athena. I know some like what allison said without skin they say to have organic. Which is guess that would include spinach and lettuce. I wasn't thinking of spinach and lettuce when i though of that. Here i thought Brent was kidding when he said spinach!Athene wrote:I've read that leaves (spinach, any kind of lettuce, etc.), apples, and strawberries are the most effected by pesticides, so if you can get them organic, do. Re: What do you like to buy organic?
I buy organic any leaves I eat, spinach, lettuce, kale, ect. also peppers, and tomatoes because they use a lot of pesticides on them. Basically, if you eat the flesh of it, i buy organic like, strawberries, apples, plums. I usually do not buy organic oranges, bananas, or mangos, most of the pesticides are tossed in the trash when you peel them. I buy local meat. We have a co-op of local farms and we do not have any factory farms around, so they may be using antibiotics and such but at least I know the animals weren't just tossed in a box and fattened. I have driving past the farms and see future dinner grazing in fields.
I would buy local, organic everything, if I could afford it, but I can't.

I buy some organic greens.. I notice it last longer than non-organic ones (chinatown)
I think... I may have to buget finance and start buying organic meat because other meat be having too much hormones
(I heard that from the radio somewhere) & also, I read one of the article you posted on pigs

Sorry Nokie! The one on turkeys was pretty disturbing too. I have some frozen turkey sausage in the freezer and i don't think i can eat it now. I don't like to be the one to give that info out because it is so disturbing.Nokie173 wrote:I read one of the article you posted on pigs

I read another article on fast food meat, but I won't go there.
