Exactly How Intense Should You Go?

Post by leanmachine »

I truly believe in order for you to burn maximum fat, you need to train with intensity. The real question is...exactly how intense should you go? Well before we can answer this, you need to know if you're actually working at an intensity level high enough to burn fat. There's a chart you can use to measure what "zone" you need to be in to burn fat; by measuring your heart rate. I truly don't follow this chart because it's really about how many calories you burn in a given exercise. You can improve your respiratory system by increasing your heart rate (80%-90% would suffice), but to burn fat, record how many calories you burn at a given time.

For example, if you burn 500 calories within one hour on an elliptical machine one day, on another day, burn 550 calories within one hour on the same machine. Or burn the same 500 calories in say 45 minutes as opposed to an hour. Make sense?

By playing around with these numbers, not only will your body burn more fat by confusing it, you begin to set goals and your workouts will not be boring.

To your health,

Exactly, there's no real way to know if calorie counters are being accurate or not.

The most intense I go is like 90 minutes. I do long-short days. And long days are 90 minutes of cardio, ligh weights, and Pilates. And on short days is only like 45-60 minutes (depending how I feel and such). I'll just go for a long walk and/or a jog and that's it.

I learned this through studying the ACE personal training course. This should explain the intensity you should use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8vRWNb0suE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Also the lower intensities burn a higher percentage of fat calories while the higher intensities burn more total calories and a higher percentage of carbohydrate calories. It all really depends on what your goals are.
Cheers :D
